Government of Canada Invests in 26 Manitoba Recreational Facilities |

 Winnipeg, Manitoba-Manitoba will move forward with four new projects to improve recreational facilities thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for four projects that will create jobs in Winnipeg and Churchill.
“These projects demonstrate how our Government is supporting all Manitobans,” said Minister Yelich. “Making investments for our families and communities during this economic downturn is a priority and this will continue as we press ahead and implement phase two of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.”
Funding of $1,784,066 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The projects funded include arenas in Winnipeg and Churchill, the Pan Am Pool in Winnipeg and numerous Winnipeg playgrounds.
“I am very proud that the City of Winnipeg is taking a leading role to rehabilitate our long-neglected recreational infrastructure with an investment of $3.62 million so our families and young people have access to safe and updated play grounds, arenas, pools and parks,” said Mayor Sam Katz. “And I would like to thank the Government of Canada for demonstrating their commitment to our community.”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
