Duncan, British Columbia- The District of North Cowichan will move forward with construction of the Somenos Sportsfields complex thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan. Today, the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for the project that will create jobs for the North Cowichan region. “Our Government is working hard for all Canadians and while we are starting to see signs of economic recovery in Canada, we need to press ahead and continue the second phase of Canada’s Economic Action Plan,” said Minister Yelich. “Projects such as this one not only create jobs in our communities, but they also help pave the way for Canada’s future growth and prosperity.” Funding of $1,000,000 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The Corporation of the District of North Cowichan will improve local sports amenities by developing three new sports fields on Somenos Road. The centrally located fields will host a variety of soccer, field hockey and field lacrosse activities. Additional project work includes construction of an adjacent gravel parking lot and washroom/change room facility. |

Edmonton, Alberta- Communities, farmers and ranchers throughout the province will benefit from a joint investment by the Governments of Canada and Alberta towards enhancing provincial grazing reserve sites and generating immediate employment opportunities. The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and Mel Knight, Minister of Alberta Sustainable Resource Development, announced a federal-provincial investment of more than $9.2 million towards the initiative. The Government of Canada has committed $5,925,000 and the Province of Alberta, an additional $3.3 million over the current and next fiscal year. “Today’s announcement is about working with our farmers and ranchers so we can continue to help meet the needs of rural Albertans,” said Minister Yelich. Funding will be used to refurbish infrastructure on Alberta’s 32 provincial grazing reserves, which provide summer pasture for Alberta's farmers and ranchers on public land. Alberta Sustainable Resource Development will oversee the project, which will include activities such as replacing fences, developing and upgrading trails, and upgrading water systems. In addition to creating immediate employment opportunities in local communities and improving Provincial Grazing Reserve (PGR) areas, tourism opportunities in nearby rural communities will continue by attracting visitors interested in recreational pursuits and sightseeing on the scenic reserves. |

Winnipeg, Manitoba-Manitoba will move forward with four new projects to improve recreational facilities thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan. Today, the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for four projects that will create jobs in Winnipeg and Churchill. “These projects demonstrate how our Government is supporting all Manitobans,” said Minister Yelich. “Making investments for our families and communities during this economic downturn is a priority and this will continue as we press ahead and implement phase two of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.” Funding of $1,784,066 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The projects funded include arenas in Winnipeg and Churchill, the Pan Am Pool in Winnipeg and numerous Winnipeg playgrounds. |
